Anastasia’s journey to Doula work began in 2009  when she attended a birth with a young woman who was journeying into motherhood as a single mother. A year later Anastasia decided she should pursue becoming a trained Doula and did her initial training with DONA. She has since continued her training through mentorships and other learning opportunities.

Anastasia has attended over 200 births in both the hospital setting and at home. In 2015, she began training new doulas with Go Midwife. She is also one of the co-leaders of ICAN-SB (International caesarean awareness network-Santa Barbara).

Anastasia believes that women are the head of their care team and should always be treated that way.  They are strong and capable and when given all the information are capable of making the best decisions for themselves and their family.

As a Doula, her philosophy is simple, every woman should be respected and surrounded with love as she walks through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Dr. Drake is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist in Santa Barbara. After completing her residency at George Washington University in Washington, DC, she moved to Santa Barbara, California, and built an extremely busy practice very quickly. An old-fashioned solo practitioner in modern medicine, Dr. Drake believes firmly in personal attention and a strong direct relationship with her patients in order to build trust and encourage patients to cultivate their own power. At the height of her private practice, she was seeing almost thirty patients a day in the office and delivering almost forty babies a month by herself. She is a firm believer in family-centered care and trauma-informed practice.

Her goal has always been to provide a safe haven in the hospital setting and judgement-free zone to women and families as they make informed choices about pregnancy and births. She is a strong advocate for her patients and believes that each patient should have a support team. Over the years, she has gained a deep respect for midwives, doulas, and other birthworkers. For Dr. Drake, teamwork in obstetrics is a way to regain the lost art of birth as a community practice. She is currently seeing a limited number of patients in a house-call only setting.

Dr. Drake’s professional interests include the history of medicine, patient autonomy, healing physician burnout, and improving safety through addressing system deficiencies.
